Recreational Gold Mining
Using picks and shovels gold prospectors first found discovered gold on
Chicken Creek in 1886. Since then the F.E. Company operated the Pedro Dredge
on the lower two miles of Chicken Creek from 1959 to 1967. After 1967 a
number of small placer mining operations continued to find gold on Chicken.
Gold is still being mined here and in the 40-Mile River area.
Take part in Chickens long standing gold history and strike it rich. We have
a number of federal patented mining claims for your adventure whether you
are a die-hard high banker or just a beginning goldpanner.
Just a beginner or want to warm up...
FREE Goldpanning at The Goldpanner on Chicken Creek next to the Gazebo. You
must use our pans and follow all posted rules.
Have Gold Fever...goldpanning, metal detecting, hi-banking and small suction
dredging is allowed on our federal patented mining claims. Claims are
located up Chicken Creek about 1.5 miles from The Goldpanner and easily
accessible by truck or 4-wheeler. No walking is required.
